Who are we?
Trailblazers
Learning Community
About Us
Trailblazers is an in-person enrichment program for homeschoolers that meets two days a week in Downtown Flagstaff.
Rooted in our mountain community, we offer a project-based education where curiosity leads the way. Students explore science, literature, art, writing, and local culture through hands-on projects that connect learning to the world around them. From studying Flagstaff’s unique ecosystems to meeting guest speakers who bring real-world expertise into the classroom, Trailblazers inspires students to think deeply, collaborate creatively, and grow with confidence both as learners and as members of their community.
Learn by Doing
Whether designing science experiments, writing original stories, or building creative projects, our students learn through experience. Trailblazers is rooted in project-based and place-based learning, connecting classroom ideas to the world around us.
Through hands-on exploration of Flagstaff’s unique environment and partnerships with local experts, students practice collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking, making learning both meaningful and memorable.
Our Academic Approach
Students thrive when learning is meaningful, social, and hands-on. At Trailblazers, science comes alive through STEM challenges rooted in real-world questions, and literature is explored through lively discussion that builds empathy and critical thinking.
Creative writing and art spark imagination and self-expression, culminating in our student-published Trailblazers Magazine and seasonal Art Gallery Showcase. Together, these experiences create a community where collaboration and creativity guide every learning adventure.
A Community That Grows Together
At Trailblazers, community grows naturally through shared experiences, curiosity, and care for our local environment. Students collaborate on projects, explore the outdoors, and connect with guest speakers who bring Flagstaff’s stories and science to life.
Our days include intentional time for connection—lunch together, outdoor play, and creative collaboration across age groups. Beyond the classroom, we continue learning through local field trips and Friday outdoor adventures that deepen students’ sense of place and belonging.
Together, we’re building a community rooted in curiosity, respect, and a shared love of learning.
