Students will dive into the big question of how things move, work, and use energy. Through hands-on experiments and progressively challenging engineering builds, students explore motion, forces, gravity, friction, simple machines, and electricity, testing ideas, gathering evidence, and applying what they learn to real engineering problems. Each week adds a new piece to an ongoing project, so students see their understanding grow alongside their creation, from a simple ramp system in week one to a fully engineered, sustainable design by the semester's end. Students also practice troubleshooting and redesign when things don't work as planned, learning that failure is simply part of the engineering process. To wrap up the semester, students present their engineering systems, sustainable designs, and inventions at our own Engineering & Innovation Gallery, sharing their work with the whole Trailblazers community.

Students will step into a language arts class where stories don't just stay on the page, they come to life. This vibrant, screen-free space is designed for young wordsmiths and reluctant readers alike, blending the rigor of back-to-basics language skills with the magic of hands-on, Waldorf-inspired learning. Students dive deep into timeless literature, exploring rich fables, myths, and classic stories that spark deep thinking and build strong vocabularies. Along the way, they build a rock-solid foundation in the mechanics of language, phonics, penmanship, sentence structure, and spelling, skills that carry into everyday conversation, too. Through copywork, creative writing in journals, watercoloring favorite scenes from a story, and even acting out a play together, students find plenty of room to spark their imaginations and fall in love with a good book.

Students will explore 2D and 3D media through drawing, painting, watercolor, collage, upcycling, and clay. Students will also dive into character creation, designing original characters from scratch and developing their own artistic style along the way. Through creative outlets like character design and storytelling, students explore emotion, identity, and voice while building nonverbal communication skills. Along the way, students practice responsibility and accountability, sharing materials mindfully with classmates and cleaning up after themselves. Students build creative confidence throughout the semester, with the freedom to explore their interests and try new skills. To wrap up the semester, students create claymation short films, presented to the class at our own Trailblazers film screening.
